New England Fiddlers and Friends bring people of all ages together through music. Members already sing or play their instrument in a variety of community and school ensembles throughout New England. They have joined together to form this new group especially for their tour of Ireland. The repertoire chosen for the concert comes from Folk Traditions found throughout America. The music represents common people from diverse times and places: ragtime, spiritual, sea shanty, cajun, shaker, jazz, and even some Irish tunes that have made their way “across the pond”.
They are one of the many international groups that now make Balbriggan a must stop location on their tours.
On the night, The Kinsealy U18 Fleadh Team will also perform. Kinsealy Comhaltas is one of the oldest and most successful and popular branches of Comhaltas Céoltoirí Éireann in Fingal. With chairperson Joe Hughes at the helm, Kinsealy Comhaltas has been at the forefront of teaching Irish music to all ages and abilities for over forty years. The branch has held and participated in cultural events and exchanges all over Europe, including Germany, Belgium and Holland.
In addition to music the Comhaltas branch is famous for ceili and set dancing. The branch has had tremendous success here and abroad in many competitions and has produced some of the countries finest Irish musicians.
