IIMS Percussion Ensembles
A Fun and Friendly Introduction to Percussion!
The IIMS Gabla Percussion Ensembles are directed by our very own conductor, Dr John Nutekpor. We currently have three ensembles, all of which offer a fun and friendly introduction to African percussion!
The Children’s Ensemble is for ages 7 to 12, the Youth Ensemble is for ages 13-18, and the Senior Ensemble is for ages 18 and over.
“Gabla is a name coined from the ewe ethnic group of Ghana, West Africa. Ga means metal and bla meaning bind. As we bond together through percussion practice from diverse backgrounds, we see ourselves as a united group replicating the word gabla.” J.Nutekpor
The Children’s and Youth Percussion Ensembles rehearse on Thursday evenings and the Senior Ensemble rehearses on Friday evenings, all at the Irish Institute of Music & Song.
